What cookies are

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store and send back on later visits. Local storage is a related mechanism that keeps a value on your device but, unlike a cookie, never travels to the server. Both are covered here.

What we store

Everything this website places on your device is strictly necessary — it either remembers a choice you made or keeps an authenticated session working:

• Theme preference (local storage). Remembers whether you chose light or dark, so the site does not flash the wrong theme on your next visit.
• Cookie choice (local storage). Remembers that you answered the cookie notice, so we stop asking.
• Editor session (cookie). Only ever issued to our content editors after they sign in to edit site text. If you are not editing this website, you will never receive it.

What we do not use

No advertising cookies. No cross-site tracking. No third-party analytics or marketing pixels. Because we set nothing beyond the strictly necessary, declining optional cookies in our notice changes nothing about how the site behaves — there is currently nothing optional to decline. We have kept the choice in place so that if we ever introduce analytics, it is off until you say otherwise.

Managing what is stored

You are always in control. Every browser lets you view, block and delete cookies and local storage for a site, usually under privacy or site settings. Clearing this site's storage will reset your theme choice and bring the cookie notice back on your next visit. Nothing you clear will prevent the site from working.

Changes to this policy

If we add anything that stores data on your device, we will list it here and update the date at the top before it goes live.
